Children’s Toys Shape Psychology
Everyone has a toy that they favoured when they were younger. It’ll be the one you took with you everywhere you went and had a hissy fit about whenever you couldn’t find it. You probably had a favorite type of toy as well, maybe a dolls house, toy cars or maybe just a ball and a cup. Well, new research by the London Institute of Psychology has revealed that the toys we play with when we are younger have a large influence on our personalities when we get older. Lets take a better look at the main 3 findings from the study.
1. Those children who were encouraged to play with toys did not become more intelligent, but were more analytical in their approach to problems in later life. The research showed that educational toys encouraged patience and taught people to break down a problem into its simplest parts in order to overcome tasks
2. People who often played with dolls or toys that toys that had human qualities, developed better communication and interaction skills in later life. Children increase their interaction level with toys the more they appear to be human research has shown, which means they are more likely to talk and share their emotions with dolls than most other toys.
3. Arguably the most interesting point that the research discovered is that those children who were able to play with toys at any given time, turned out to be wealthier and had more self-confidence in later life. This means if children played with learning toys, took toys out and about with them and had access to toys at friends houses etc, they became more successful in later life.
There is of course the argument of unknown cause and effect which could undermine this research potentially. What is meant by this is do children become influenced by the toys they play with or do they pick certain toys because of the type of people they already are? Most experts tend to think that its a bit of both, which means that the study still provides some valid findings.

‘Sister Wives’ Family Sues State Over Bigamy (AOL Television)
SALT LAKE CITY — A federal judge has ruled there’s sufficient evidence to
allow a polygamous family made famous by a reality TV show to pursue a lawsuit
challenging the constitutionality of Utah’s bigamy law.
U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups on Friday dismissed Utah’s governor and
attorney general from the case, but allowed the suit to proceed against Utah
County Attorney Jeffrey Buhman, the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune report.
Buhman threatened to prosecute Kody Brown and his four wives – Meri, Janelle,
Christine and Robyn – after the TLC show “Sister Wives” debuted in September
2010, but his office has not filed charges.
The family sued Buhman, Gov. Gary Herbert and Attorney General Mark Shurtleff
in July 2011, claiming Utah’s bigamy statute violates its constitutional
rights to due process, equal protection, free exercise of religion, free
speech and freedom of association.
Waddoups, in his 21-page ruling, wrote that he dismissed Herbert and Shurtleff
from the case because Shurtleff assured the Browns that they wouldn’t be
prosecuted. Shurtleff has a policy of not prosecuting consenting adult
polygamists as long as they’re not committing other crimes.
