Road Bikes For Commuters
For many years, it seems that mountain biking was all the rage in the cycling world and many people spent enormous amounts of money on gear and accessories. Ironically, many of these people only went out once or twice for a cycling adventure, and then stowed their bikes and gear away, never to be seen again. Nowadays, there has been a strong resurgence in regular road biking and more and more people are not only buying good bikes for the road, but they are also putting them to use regularly.
One of the reasons for this trend in cycling has been the downturn in the economy in recent years. There are many people these days who simply cannot afford the high cost of gasoline to get to and from work and so they have resorted to bike commuting to get where they need to go in an economical way. In addition, the high costs of buying and maintaining automobiles and also carrying the proper insurance on them has become prohibitive for many people.
This trend has caused a considerable increase in the number of people in virtually every community who are now getting on their bikes instead of driving their cars to work. To support this bicycle commuting trend, many communities across the country are now making improvements to and expanding their network of bike lanes and adding additional signs to encourage motorists to safely share the roadways with those who are road cycling.
In many ways, this increase in biking has turned out to be a real win-win situation for many communities, municipalities and residents. This is because each person who is riding their bike to work is leaving their car or truck at home and this means there is less wear and tear on the roads and less maintenance expense. Also, the communities have reduced noise and pollution levels. At the same time, the bike commuters have better marked lanes and as a result enjoy better safety on the city streets.
Of course, biking has long been, and continues to be, a popular recreational activity. Not everyone who is buying a bike these days is planning on riding it to and from work each day. Many people simply love to ride their bikes through their neighborhood, through local parks or scenic routes in their area. The slower pace of a bicycle tour through a favorite area is a wonderful way to see things that are usually missed when traveling in an automobile.
Road biking is also an excellent form of exercise and this physical activity is actually another hidden benefit that people discover when they begin riding to work or enjoying recreational cycling. In addition to saving money and improving their local environment, most people who regularly ride a bike lose weight and look and feel better. They often are healthier and don’t succumb to illness as much, and are stronger and more vigorous in all aspects of their lives.

What is the Best Type of Cycling by John Philips
This is an interesting question to ask and likely does not have a right or wrong answer. Many people ask this question, but it’s simply not an easy thing to answer. The type of cycling that is best for you might be something that does not work for someone else.
The three main types of cycling include mountain biking, racing and road cycling. In mountain biking you would purchase a bike specific to this purpose that has been equipped with a heavy-duty frame and thicker tires. For people that like a little adventure, Mountain biking is the way to go. You get to ride on trails, mountains, forests and dirt roads and tracks. Often the riding is quite demanding and requires a person to be in good physical shape.
Racing is another genre of cycling and is quite popular today. Even for those that don’t plan to race on a professional level, this form of cycling fast can be quite exhilarating You will often see these types of riders dressed up in their fancy attire, with tight fitting, colorful clothing.
Road cycling might be the most common type of cycling. Many amateur riders will strap on a helmet and take a spin on their bicycle, more for leisure reasons, but also for some exercise. This is a great hobby to get into as a family, maybe taking a nice bike ride on a day off.
No matter the type of cycling that you do, remember to buy the right equipment for the type of riding that you plan on doing. It’s a great way to keep in shape and a good exercise for your overall health. Getting outdoors is good for everyone and the types of movement that a bike offers make it a good way to build muscle and exercise your cardiovascular system.
