White Tie Party: Big formal events make use of this dress code. Events such as banquets, balls, operas make use of such a dress code. Black Tie Party: This code is usually used in prom nights, weddings, reception functions etc. Men dress up with suits and woman dress up in gowns. The invitation states a black tie to be worn for the occasion. However the dress codes can be semi-formal. In office parties, men should wear black or gray tuxedos with matching ties. For a semi-formal occasion they can wear black or white tail coat and dinner jacket. Woman on the other hand can wear long gowns or evening gowns for a semi-formal event and evening gowns or wide leg trousers in case of an office party or meetings.
Cocktail Party: The above mentioned parties are quite formal. Cocktail parties do not impose such formalities. Men can wear any colored suit with our without tie for cocktail parties.
